Shirley Hawthorne, Texas and New Jersey Artist
Shirley Hawthorne grew up in rural South Jersey where she developed an appreciation for the beauty in simple things and a love of nature. Today landscapes, birds, and natural forms are the subject of her paintings in oil and pastel. Her jewelry uses unique materials she finds from nature and travels.
Shirley holds a BS in art education from the University of Delaware and also studied at the University of the Arts, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and Studio Incamminati all in Philadelphia, PA. Shirley taught art K-12 in Pittsburgh, PA and Salem County, NJ.3
She has won a variety of awards in numerous juried shows, and has exhibited her work in the Noyes, Brownsville, and Hagley museums. Recently she won first place in a TX juried show: the 42nd International Show in the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art.
Shirley shows her art in The Gallery in Port Isabel, Texas and is also represented by the Nashville North Gallery in Linwood, NJ and Art on Asbury in Ocean City, NJ. She is a member of the Ocean City Fine Arts League, Laguna Madre Art League, and an Associate Artist at the Renaissance Center in Millville, NJ.
